Naie Shizu · Nanbokucho Revival Katana

Tribute to the Legendary Mino School

This unmei katana is inspired by the Naie Shizu lineage of the Mino tradition, a school tracing its roots to Kaneuji — one of Masamune’s Ten Great Disciples. Blending Yamashiro influence with Mino craftsmanship, this piece recreates the bold yet refined sugata of the Nanbokucho period.

With its wide blade, shallow curvature, and carved dual grooves (Bo-Hi & Soe-Hi), the sword captures the dignified power of southern court era blades.

Blade Construction & Metallurgy

Sanmai Lamination Structure
Forged using traditional three-layer construction with folded steel core and jacket. This structure balances cutting sharpness with resilience and shock absorption.

Clay Tempered Hamon
Hand-applied clay tempering creates a vivid and active hamon, reflecting traditional irregular and choji-style influences of the Mino school.

36-Step Hand Polishing (Three-Color Finish)
Each blade undergoes 36 stages of hand polishing, producing a luminous surface and clear jihada grain. The edge is razor sharp and battle capable.
